Steel Logistics GmbH
The Beeckerwerth central warehouse is a 20,000 square meter hall with a storage capacity of around 85,000 metric tons. The air conditioning means that moisture sensitive materials and goods can also be stored there without any problems before being moved further. Currently, these are mainly steel products.
Goods are delivered to and shipped from the facility by rail and truck. In front of the warehouse is a truck parking lot from which vehicles are directed to the four loading docks inside the warehouse. Loading operations are carried out using two overhead cranes. A modern warehouse management system is used to manage the coils.
Today, the flow of goods between the producer and the customer must be optimally coordinated. Two large slab storage yards, located in the immediate vicinity of the steel mill and hot-strip mill, are managed using reach stackers.
Handling procedures at the Walsum slab storage yard are designed for trimodal use by waterway, railway and trucks, while the Beeckerwerth slab storage yard is geared up for bimodal use involving the railway and trucks.
