Warehouse management – with the assistance of modern management systems

Beeckerwerth central warehouse

The Beeckerwerth central warehouse is a 20,000 square meter hall with a storage capacity of around 85,000 metric tons. The air conditioning means that moisture sensitive materials and goods can also be stored there without any problems before being moved further. Currently, these are mainly steel products.

Transport goods are brought in and out by rail – two tracks are available – and by truck. Loading operations are carried out with the help of two overhead cranes. A modern warehouse management system is used to manage the coils.

Beeckerwerth and Walsum-Süd slab storage yards

Today, flows of goods between producers and customers have to be optimally coordinated. The Walsum-Süd slab storage yard is located at the port of Walsum, in the immediate vicinity of the dry handling terminal. It covers an area of approx. 85,000 square meters and has an operating capacity of approx. 180,000 metric tons. The Beeckerwerth slab storage yard is located in the immediate vicinity of the steel mill and hot strip mill. It covers an area of approx. 45,000 square meters and has an operating capacity of approx. 90,000 metric tons.

Handling procedures at the Walsum slab storage yard are designed for trimodal use by waterway, railway and trucks, while the Beeckerwerth slab storage yard is geared up for bimodal use involving the railway and trucks.
